I found making wordpress theme as a free one way link building idea in many online marketing blog. But before that think of What’s the ROI of making a blog theme?

I was wondering why people make wordpress themes and are running for it crazily. The logic may be simple. The popularity of making website gradually falling with the advent of blogging cms provided by wordpress. Now a days blogger.com has also started working on their blog interface. Less people are internet/tech savvy, moreover people have little time to devote on managing different things at once. So if you want to target a non-techy, like a doctor who wants to share his knowledge and experiences and express his ideas, he’d definitely go for either blogger or wordpress or any other blog providers. I’m not going to promote anyone. ;)

In continuation with 8 elements of a good blog theme or template, following points may be worth-mentioning for you to decide before making a blog theme:

(1) Target niche bloggers/subjects - You are going to get a link/reference (something like design by …. or blah..blah.. ) if someone downloads your theme and launched in their blogs. So always make sure to find a specific or highly searched keywords subject to target niche bloggers. Visit popular themes/most downloads sections of blog themes providers and try to study the theme features.

(2) A stat can be beneficial - A simple stat would be a great thing to study before deciding for a blog theme. Refer to something like this if available. They have categorized their theme database in terms of colors, layouts, and theme subject. I’d suggest you to go for less popular colors, and theme subjects to avoid too much competition initially. :)

(3) Don’t try to do anything for making it simply unique - As I said, if you want to target non-techy guys, make sure you keep it simple enough to understand that don’t make them think twice.

(4) Eye catchy look and presentation - Give your theme a great look with high resolution meaningful images that can hunt the eyes of bloggers. Almost over 80% people are going after look these days. :)

(5) Think of visitors’ usability - Make sure your theme is compatible with IE, Firefox and Safari browsers. A simple translation of your theme in world’s popular languages other than English would be a great idea to acquire geographical benefits for your theme. If you are going for wordpress themes, make themes that is compatible with the latest wordpress release.
