Have a look at what Matt Cutts said on search engine ranking for 2009

Cutts said, “I’m not sure I would say ranking is dead but it’s not as important as it used to be. The fact is the smart SEOs are not just necessarily looking at the rankings. They are looking at conversion, they are looking at their server log. It’s great if you’re ranking for a phrase but unless that leads to sales that doesn’t help you very much.”

“The challenge is not to pay so much attention to ranking, pay attention to traffic, pay attention to conversions and keep building good content and don’t worry about ‘can I show people that I rank number one for my trophy phrase.’”

You have a website to sale your products. Now what will be your primary objective? I know your answer will be to increase or improve your website conversion. The normal website conversion rate is believed to be in between 1-5% on an average. Say you have 2000 visitors per day, your optimum conversion rate lies between 20 to 100.

This is not at all an easy job man. Following tips can help you learn how to increase or improve website conversion:

Know your Unique Selling Point (USP):

The most important thing you should be aware of is your unique selling point (USP). Suppose You are selling a product now which other companies are already selling and have considerable amount of customers. Just think why a customer should buy from you. This is the question the answer of which most of the companies are not clearly aware of and are lacking in gaining the confidence of potential customers. Your USP will be what you set apart from your competitor. Explaining it simply, just ask yourself these two questions:

Do your products have unique features that people have never founded anywhere?

Are you providing unique services to your customers?

Increase trustworthiness

Keep the User Informed with your daily product updates through newsletters.

Be clear, open and honest to tell users why they should buy from you.

Have a Clear money returns Policy.

Offer different Payment Options.

Increase accessibility and usability

Don’t Waste Time of users. Make the call-to-action button clearly visible without having to scroll; don’t bury it under pages of information. Consider using tabs or a pop-up box to consolidate information. Don’t discourage visitors by requiring registration to your site.

Speak your customers’ language. Clearly state your key message using as few words as possible. Use summary descriptions, sub-headings, bulleted lists and short paragraphs. Adopt a standard one-column format for easy reading.

Design and optimize the page. Make navigation choices obvious, Provide intuitive error messages. Design your site with a clear hierarchy with color and contrast for easily legible text. Use meaningful and high-quality graphics. Use color to distinguish between visited and unvisited links.

As you know, with the increasing use of internet all over the world, internet marketing is becoming more popular phase in overall business development. Nowadays, companies have felt its importance. Investors are looking for every online opening through which they can generate traffic and business for themselves. They are launching unique online marketing campaign to attract visitors everyday. But with the point of time, it has been seen that due to lack of time, resource, knowledge or expertise (I’d not say money/capital is the factor because I see them investing more bucks in it), they are unable to meet their target/result.

You know how important incoming links become in affecting search engine ranking for a particular keyphrase. Time is limited and you need to achieve good result in quick time. I’ve tested various link building tips over the years and found the following 13 ways that can have killer effect on your search engine ranking.

But before that, always keep in mind that search engine likes quality incoming links and you need to build link trust. Don’t go for spam links.

So, your primary objective will be

To get links with anchor text of keyphrases that you target.

To get links with related and polynyms keyphrases as anchor text.

To get links that look natural and with no patterns.

1. Three way link exchange

Search engine always look for one way links for judging the credibility of a website. But that’s a really tough and time consuming job. Engaging yourself in three way Linking procedure from relevant websites with targeted keywords as anchor texts within the relevant content. Specially targeting relevant web pages and blog posts. Also getting links from the pages where your competitor left their link can be good idea. You can use “google alerts” to ping you for relevant links.

2. Article Marketing

Negotiating with webmasters to put your article in their websites can be a good way to get relevant links. You can offer them to print their articles on your websites just like you do for three way link exchange

3. Article submission

Put your niche article (with targeted keywords as anchor texts) in different article warehouses those allow re-print of articles and you get lots of free links once your article is taken for reprint on other sites.

4. Web Directory submission

Website submission in free web directories where every link is reviewed by humans before making it live is an easy way to get one way links. You will find most of the free directories having low PR/no PR at all and you may think what’s the use of it. I’d say they wouldn’t be free anymore if they achieve considerable PR. I feel that a directory is good if they employ proper link review process for every submitted link.

5. Forum links and signature

Put your website link in forum post where you discuss a relevant issue and you know that your website has a relevant page for the forum members to know about the topic. Don’t spam it. Also you can use your website link in your account signature. It is also an easy way to get free link and traffic as well.

6. Using social networks

Join different social networks and make lots of online friends and engage them to build link relationship with you. Make them understand what is the importance of it.

7. Links from Blog directories

Now a days blogs are the most important and successful web2.0 platforms to make your online presence. Submit your blog in different blog directories.

8. Submitting themes and web templates

Make website templates, blog themes and publish in different template and theme directories. Mostly you get a free link to website in author/publisher name. If your template/theme is catchy, you will get lots of downloads and free links.

9. Press Releases

Release news stuff for your websites or any niche industry news in different press release websites. Although most of the those websites have become paid and charge some bucks for placing visible links, you can own some free links and good exposure on the web.

10. Niche blog comments

Browse for blogs which provide “Dofollow” links and put a good comment there relevant to the post and get a free link. Take help from “dofollow searcher tools”. Most of the comment links are made with “nofollow” tag. These tools will help you to find those links which are readable by the search engines.

11. Promoting through RSS feed directories

Create a RSS feed for your website with important news and put it in different RSS search engines/RSS listing websites. Once your RSS is crawled by their bots, you will get an active free link to your website.

12. Link Baiting

Create something that is buzzing to people and you will automatically win backlinks from other sites when people talk about it, blogging it, discuss it on different forums. Here is a must read simple link bait article for you. But remember it’s the hardest job to get links because you don’t know what people will like.

13. Using web2.0 platforms and social networks

Make online friends by joining discussion forums, blogger communties (blogcatalog, mybloglog), social bookmarking (del.icio.us,stumbleupon), social networks (craigslist, yahoo answers, google groups, squidoo, digg) and get tons of free one way incoming links.

I found making wordpress theme as a free one way link building idea in many online marketing blog. But before that think of What’s the ROI of making a blog theme?

I was wondering why people make wordpress themes and are running for it crazily. The logic may be simple. The popularity of making website gradually falling with the advent of blogging cms provided by wordpress. Now a days blogger.com has also started working on their blog interface. Less people are internet/tech savvy, moreover people have little time to devote on managing different things at once. So if you want to target a non-techy, like a doctor who wants to share his knowledge and experiences and express his ideas, he’d definitely go for either blogger or wordpress or any other blog providers. I’m not going to promote anyone.

In continuation with 8 elements of a good blog theme or template, following points may be worth-mentioning for you to decide before making a blog theme:

(1) Target niche bloggers/subjects

You are going to get a link/reference (something like design by …. or blah..blah.. ) if someone downloads your theme and launched in their blogs. So always make sure to find a specific or highly searched keywords subject to target niche bloggers. Visit popular themes/most downloads sections of blog themes providers and try to study the theme features.

(2) A stat can be beneficial

A simple stat would be a great thing to study before deciding for a blog theme. Refer to something like this if available. They have categorized their theme database in terms of colors, layouts, and theme subject. I’d suggest you to go for less popular colors, and theme subjects to avoid too much competition initially.

(3) Don’t try to do anything for making it simply unique

As I said, if you want to target non-techy guys, make sure you keep it simple enough to understand that don’t make them think twice.

(4) Eye catchy look and presentation

Give your theme a great look with high resolution meaningful images that can hunt the eyes of bloggers. Almost over 80% people are going after look these days.

(5) Think of visitors’ usability

Make sure your theme is compatible with IE, Firefox and Safari browsers. A simple translation of your theme in world’s popular languages other than English would be a great idea to acquire geographical benefits for your theme. If you are going for wordpress themes, make themes that is compatible with the latest wordpress release.

What’s your ROI on blog theme?

Downloads: 10,000 and 8000 back links in yahoo

That’s your ROI. What else? Yeah, something more. Put two sponsor links for your theme will earn you some dollars for devoting your valuable time and exercising your brain. How to sponsor your theme?
